Diners ran for their lives as a 4WD drove mounted a footpath and crashed into a busy Melbourne cafe.
A witness said restaurant patrons fled as the vehicle crashed into outdoor tables and chairs lining both sides of the street.
The car eventually slammed into the front window of Paragon Cafe and the driver ran off.
ABC reporter Damian McIvor was in a cafe nearby.
"We heard a noise. People were screaming: 'Stay inside!'," he said.
