Tens of thousands of democracy protesters in Hong Kong have continued to defy Beijing in one of the biggest political challenges for China since the Tiananmen Square crackdown 25 years ago.
Far from being deterred by the possibility of another confrontation with law enforcement officials, demonstrators massed for a fourth night in the centre of the global financial hub.
A day earlier, riot police tried to disperse the protests with tear gas and baton charges in the worst unrest in Hong Kong since China resumed its rule over the former British colony in 1997.
